Indiana Jones and my general rant

We went to see Indian Jones tonight and honestly, it wasn't too bad. At one point I was about to give it a "puh-leese Lucas, really ? ", but then I remembered that Indy chased the Ark of the Covenant, some shiny stones from a dude who pulls beating hearts out of skinny guys chests, and the holy grail...so, I guess this one is just as believeable.

Regardless what people say, Cate does alright as the uber-tough Russian chick who's accent comes and goes.

There is pretty good action, and they did a good job hiding the faces of the stunt doubles for Ford...some of the jokes seemed to go over the heads of the "little ones" in the audience (really moms and dads ? You think that 6 year old's want to watch Indiana Jones ?? Save your money for Kung Fu Panda ).

In the end, there were points I would have changed ( LUCAS, CALL ME...I CAN HELP WITH THE SCRIPTS....) but over all...it was still better than Temple of Doom.

I'm not so sure I like the idea of handing the franchise over to ol' Shia...and I hope to god that's just a rumor...but, if Lucas and Spielberg helm it, it will still kick Cages National Treasures ass.

Now for the rant...has anyone else noticed that movies today just don;t have the grab of yesteryear ?? What I mean is, when was the last time you saw a movie that made you say " I have to see that again !!". Maybe this is a childish thought, but really...I had this feeling when I saw Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Tron, Aliens, Snatch, The Matrix, Legend, Big Trouble in Little China (screw all of you, THAT was a good movie and should have a sequel...long live Jack Burton)...I know there are others, but these ones came to mind first.

When these guys make big blockbusters, who watches them and says "that's it, it's perfect !" ? Who's the guy that really thought Waterworld, or the Postman was the be all and end all of cinema. Why in the hell would anyone really go see Fools Gold twice let alone once ! When Travolta makes "Get Shorty", what made him think that doing "Be Cool" would be a big hit ? Did he even read it ? I tried to read the book but found it dull (AND PLEASE GOD, PLEASE STOP MAKING MOVIES WITH TRAVOLTA DANCING WITH UMA THURMAN...it was cool once...NO MORE ! ADD TO THAT, NO MORE L.RON HUBBARD MOVIES...wow., did battlefield earth suck )

I think if Film Companies were smart, they would hire a few of us dorks and we can tell them what works and what doesn't.

I'm new to blogging and really don;t have a point to close on other than I need a beverage and I'm kinda sleepy....I'll work on my prose over the next few entries ( I'll do my best to blog as much as possible so there should be something interesting here sometime soon)
