Maynard makes wine

I have got to see this !!!!!!

One more reason to high tail it

Have a look at the picture might think, 'hmmm, that's a nice shot of your backyard at Christmas'...nope, that would be yesterday. Yes, that's right. May 29th and we have snow. I shouldn't be shocked. This happens every year and since I've been around this area a few decades you would think I should be used to it. Maybe I am used to it, and now it's begun to bug the hell outta me. It's almost June for gods sake. Where's the sun ? It's in the high 20's/30's out east and we get winter...we actually had to turn the furnace on the last two days and bring in plants since the temp went below 0 at night. So that means at best we'll get 2.5 months of good weather (if we're lucky).

Yup...that's the straw and my camel is now a paraplegic....we're not waiting much longer...operation get the fudge outta here is in full swing....

Vegas Draws Near and....

We're getting ready to ship out some product for a trade show in Vegas that I'll be heading to in just over a week (poor me). I'll be down there from June 7th to the 12th. Hopefully I can have another killer night on the poker tables (this time the expenses are covered by the company so the winnings would all be in my pocket instead of paying for a flight, hotel and food).

I would assume the tone of this years show will be more upbeat. Last year it was pretty slow and somber...rightfully so, everyone thought the sky was falling. Now, things are picking up and people are buying again so I'm sure there will be much more activity.

and.....I'll be heading to the eye doc tomorrow. I haven't been to one in well over 22 years and if I had to place bets I would go all in on the fact that I will be getting specs of some fashion...whether I have to wear them all the time or just for reading will be the only question. Maybe it's time to embrace my inner designer and get myself some skinny square black rimmed glasses, black pants, a black turtle neck, shave my head and 'buzz' people when I'm done with them....yup...glasses can change a man.

Big Boy Update

He's almost 2. Less than a month. Where did that time go ?

The words are coming fast an furious these days...I almost expect to hear him say 'don'tyouunderstandthewordsthatarecomingouttamymouff?' in his best Chris Tucker voice....

He's got a few letters down now (he pointed to his place mat that has the alphabet and said 'ehshhh' then pointed to another letter and said 'yi'...both were right.....for those that don't get it...that's an S and a Y). At this rate he'll have the whole alphabet down by 3.

He's getting his numbers down..he counts to 5 and can point out an 8...he points at 6 and says 9, but that's an honest mistake.

He has a firm grasp of NO ! or NO-MY! depending on the situation...and usually his first response to any question is then a quick YESH or PWEEEESE when he realizes we're talking about a snack, a milk or a hug.

He likes his 'Noon-als' [noodles] and anything he can dip in Ketchup. Loves apple wedges, cereal (especially dads, cause whatever dad is eating is way better than what's in his bowl), strawberries, grapes, and bacon (and more than I can list). And oddly enough, asparagus and lemon wedges....who knew.

Bath time is the best thing EVAR !

Bed time...not so much.

'-side' is the best place to be...unless it's raining then it's 'ah-dun...home'

The high chair is for chumps now...he sits in a normal chair like dad....

'Toooopee' is the thing we watch just before bedtime (that's Toopy and Binoo for those not in the know)

There's way more...and each day adds more....

The Summer Purge Has Begun

In the past I've mentioned that this year we were going to do a massive purge...we'd go through our stuff and apply the 80/20 rule and then get rid of it. Some would be given away, some sold, some donated and the rest junked (or recycled). has already begun.

For example, we've sold an old dresser that was just taking up space, Freecycled a bunch of stuff like my old digital camera that took a bounce off our concrete floor (it still worked fine, just the view screen was cooked and only worked every now and then), an old CD player and other stuff like VHS tapes (my last 2 VHS players are goodbye Pulp Fiction, Dune, and assorted movies and tapes that I'm not 100% sure what's even on them......but i kept the Star Wars tapes....just couldn't see them go). The portion of the sectional upstairs is now in the garage ready to be picked up tonight (the wife hated this thing). We have boxes of old cell phones, electronics, etc that will be heading to the electronics recycle. We've gone through our clothes and other odds and ends around the house.

I have a feeling this will be a full summer on-going event. The more we dig into our stuff the more we find things that are just taking up space and not being used and have no value.

the ultimate goal is to be 100% streamlined where everything in the house has a place, a use, and IS being used. If something ever falls into the's gone. Even with the few things that have left the house, we already fell as though a weight has been lifted from our backs....the upstairs also looks bigger :)

work work work

Just putting the final touches on a couple large scale projects. It will be nice to see these pushed out the back end. One is for a large refinery in the US and the other for a Fire/Police in New York. Both may need me on site during install, but the timing might be bad...real bad (kinda like that time I walked in on a friend dancing in front of a mirror in ladies underwear........nope.....doesn't have the same effect that Peter Griffen's flashbacks do)

My bad timing is due to the new arrival...

The first batch of install in Chicago is supposed to happen around the first week of July....right before the sequel so that visit is out. The subsequent visits are unknown and could be spread over the next 6 months possibly. The New York visit is roughly around August. That one is touch and go...a couple days gone might not be a big deal but i think i'll be needed on site for at least 2 weeks (that might be too much for mama at home)

Along with these projects we're starting to see a rush on smaller jobs. Single units. These ones are nice since there's little work involved in them and they can be pushed out fast.

And of shows. We have the one I'm going to in June in Vegas. We'll have some product on show so we're just getting that ready. We also have a unit in Shanghai showing at the world fair. I'm fairly certain the odds of me seeing that one are slim to none....not unless the entire fam damly wants to get on a plane for 14 hours. (that's not something I would do with our toddler and a newbe).

The Office is getting cleared out now since we've shipped a couple demos out and the recent FAT's (factory acceptance tests) have been completed and are being torn down....we could have a ball hockey game in here soon. It's also quiet today since we have people out on site installs.

Just need to finalize some clerical stuff today and I'm off for an extended long weekend. I'll still be kind'a workin' tomorrow but not too much. Mostly just checking email here and there and getting ready for the departure on Thursday.

I'll try doing some updates on the road and maybe one tomorrow after the check on the newbe (roughly 7 weeks of baking left i think).

From bail out to 800Mill in - GM

What would Tyler Durden Do no specific story...i just find this site funny

Sleep Talking Man - Funny Site...although i think a bunch is fake...

Where did the time go ?

Hobbies and stuff

I've been thinking about how I waste spend my time when I'm not working and I thought maybe I should fill this time with a hobby or something. I used to play the guitar whenever I had a chance (those were the days of the band and the crazy rock & roll). Now, I think more about...can this thing that I do make $$$ ? So...what do I like to do, that would be kinda hobby-ish and also something that could make some dough. The answer is always the same (and I've mentioned it before). Photography.

I've taken a black and white course in the past and really enjoyed it. I've also been messing around with iphone apps and really dig what I can get out of that.

So...what's the next step ? Spend i guess...well, first, research, then spend.

I have a bunch of people I know that do this for a living so they can steer me towards good equipment and possibly good used equipment. Thank god the days of the dark room and chemicals are over (or over-ish), and the digital is here...i can take a million pictures to get the right one and not worry about all the film and time. Also, there are plenty of free online programs that let you mess with pictures.

I think I'll plan to start doing more of this during summer...I'll have plenty of reasons to take pictures.

Darth Vader doing voice over for Tom Tom

May Long

May long is about 8 days away for me (I'm taking the Thursday and Friday along with the Monday) and it's time to get away for a weekend for some ree-lax-eh-shun ! And yes, that does include leaving the boy behind.
I know that sounds terrible...oh what a bad dad you are and such. Well, I plan to use this time to catch up on some much needed sleep and just hang with the wife. The boy will be fine. He'll be spending the weekend with his Gramma.
So, where will we go when we have a few days to ourselves.....can't take a plane since the wife is full on preggo and only has about 8 weeks left of baking. That leaves road trips. West ? Maybe. East...No ! crazy ? South ? Hmmmm
Yes, I think south. The dollar is doing well...and as per my previous post, we need a new TV, so why not flee for the boarder. That means Whitefish.

We'll either get shacked up there or in Kalispell...probably Kalispell...from an initial search it looks like there's a few hotels with some sale offers.

So what will we do there ? Hit the stores of course ! Cheap clothes. Cheap booze. Cheap everything (new TV.....maybe)!
We'll be looking for a few things for the boy and sequel. Along with the hootch for summer and whatever else might catch our eye.

Ahhhhh....should be a good time. Pin and Q here I come ! Get those Steak and Eggs ready !

LOST - still questions unanswered

Sooo....we have about 2 or 3 episodes left of LOST and that's that. They seem to be doing a great job of whittling down the cast so that there aren't many left, but have they answered the questions ? I don't think so...(and I have a feeling they won't...for what reason ? Who knows...maybe to make a movie ? A spin off TV show ? Online Show ? Books ? Cause they have no idea ?)

Here's some that come to mind:

  • What's the deal with Walt ? He was such a big deal at the beginning and his step dad even made comments about him but once he turned into 'grown up Walt' he just faded away

  • We've concluded (possibly) that the candidates are there to replace Jacob...but why ? Is there a finite amount of time a person can contain evil on the island ?

  • Why did smokey wait so long to start killing all the losties ? They made it seem like it would be easier if they were all in the sub and do it at once, but he could he just killed them like he did with the people at the temple.

  • What's up with the four toed statue ?

  • What is the island ?

  • Why does Penny's father want back on the island so badly ?

  • The voices in the woods explanation was lame....and why would the island keep Micheal alive to then let him spend eternity haunting the island ?

  • What's the deal with the numbers ?

  • Why does the island heal people ?

  • What's up with Rose and Bernard ?

  • Why is Desmond important ?

there's more....we'll see what happens tonight

Frickin Frackin just won't make it easy for the people trying to save money. Last night, while enjoying an evening Internet surf and an episode of True Blood, I heard a pop and looked up to see the top half of the image on my flat screen

At first I thought this was part of the show...but no. My fairly brand spankin' new 52" Plasma screen is effed up ! (when i say fairly new, we bought it about 2.5 years ago from the States when the Canadian Dollar was at 1.06 or so).

Of course, the warranty is up and as far as I can see from checking online the video card might be screwed so, unless i want to pay someone 600+ for a new card and god knows how much more to replace and do the work....I need a new TV.

Damn...this new technology is CRAP ! Computers flake out after a year or so (my 3 year old laptops mother board fried and my new one had a screwed hard drive), cell phones die (I seem to get a good year and a half out of a phone then they just die), and now TV's. They seem to be made to be consumables and definitely NOT long lasting.

Well....we may just suck it up with the old TV for a's really aggravating since we just moved the big one into the main room at Easter.

What a pain....

last Trip Before Sequel Booked !

It's official. I'm Booked !
Bally's from June 7th to the 12th.
It's not all fun and games though....I am going for work. It's for a trade show called Infocomm.
It's a massive A/V trade show. A number of our resellers and customers are at this show.
We'll have some product down there so it should be a good showcase.
Also, the WSOP is going on so i hope to bump elbows with a few of the Poker Stars.
Maybe I'll even try to get into a cheap satellite to see if i can win the million !

Then...that's it for leaving the toddler and preggo wife...I'll be glued to home, awaiting 'the call' ! Let's hope this time it doesn't come at 2am...

Vegas in June

It should be hot and busy. I'll be there from the 8th until the 11th or 12th for a trade show...and there are usually after show parties etc so I won't need to find a bunch to do...although, I know I will hear the call of the NLHE tables.

I'm not sure where I will be staying...maybe I should take care of that soon since it's only a month away.

I think this will be the last trip away from Calgary since anytime from the end of June onward could be GO time.

Update on the sequel: had an appointment yesterday and all is good. He's in the breach position right now but not to worry...the assumption is he'll flip over in the next few weeks and be ready to go when the time comes.

2010 Travel

Travel becomes a little more interesting when you have a toddler and a baby in tow. Out goes the late nights in the clubs and pubs, in comes the early mornings and early bed by 8ish.

I know people travel with their kids all the time and I'm following a couple blogs on the subject, but I still get apprehensive. Long flights...I don't think Captain Busy would sit still for a flight to China, let alone the UK or Toronto for that matter. Also, when I travel I like to have the freedom to do what I want when I want and go where I want at whatever time I want. But, I guess those days are done...or at least on hold for a few years.

The destinations will have to be more kid friendly over the next 10 years or so. The usuals in about 6-8 years like Disney and Universal or Six Flags. Camping. Short road trips. At least until they can sit still on a plane.

All that being said...let's have a look at some possible travel for 2010...

  • Las Vegas in June (work trip)
  • Possibly New York (Long Island) in Aug (work trip)
  • Canmore (Oct Wedding)
  • Whitefish (May)
  • Sicamous (Sept Wedding)
  • BC Interior throughout summer
  • Nashville in June (work trip)

looks like I'm a little light on the 'family' trips for 2010....since the sequel is due in July the rest of the year will be mostly hangin' at home and/or trips to the BC interior to 'the lake'. That's not so bad, the deck could use a serious work out...meaning, my ass in a lawn chair, BBQ going nonstop and a bucket with ice and beverage next to me....Let's hope we get some good weather.

2011 will start of with a bang though with a wedding in a hot first it was possibly Hawaii, but I think it will be down south...Mexico...Costa Rica...or somewhere nearby.

I want to take 1 long trip in 2011 with the entire family so I'll be looking for suggestions for a great place to visit with a 1 & 3 year old (I'm thinking Spain, or Italy...possibly rent a villa for a few weeks and just relax)

Springtime Play

That's it

While I like living in Alberta and everything about it....I've hit that point where I just can't stand the freakin' weather. I hate the wind (yes....hate). I hate the fact that winter just won't quit (it's currently -9C with wind chill and snowing...yes...snowing on May 4th). Summer is too short and some times nonexistent.

So, the question is...where do we go ? Sask is out...I hate horseflies so Manitoba is out. Ontario is out (. East coast is out. Quebec is out........I think you can see where we're going with this.

So, it looks like BC is the winner. But where in BC ? Coast ? Island ? Interior ? Each has pros/cons. Personally I could see myself on the island. Mild weather, nice scenery, reasonable real estate and so on. I think the better half will argue that it's a little far from family, being a flight or 12+ hr drive. That means that the possible location would be interior.

Kelowna ? Kamloops ? Peachland ? Penticton ? Osoyoos ? Vernon ? Nelson ? Castlegar ?

Let the investigations begin !

The cutest thing ever

The boy was sitting next to his mama and when I asked him where his brother was he hugged his mama's preggo belly, put his ear to it and said "Hi"
